In countries blessed with the knowledge and ability to produce and to manage the things that are so essential to survival, such as food and water, it is hard to imagine a place where these things are so scarce and typically out of reach. Especially in a land as rich with natural resources as Zambia, it is astonishing that there are millions in danger of starvation throughout the country. Just as the knowledge of how to cultivate land and feed ourselves has been passed down from generation to generation in self-sufficient nations, Sons of Thunder is now passing this knowledge to the people of Zambia in hopes that they too will obtain autonomy and acquire a sense of self-reliance.
Self-sufficiency, confidence, pride, and independence are vital to the victory over starvation and malnutrition in Zambia. God has provided Sons of Thunder with a 10,000 acre farm designed to meet the objective of training Zambian nationals toward autonomy and freedom. National families come to our farm, including church leaders and village leaders, at our invitation, to be trained in solid agricultural practices. A major key is that everything we do on the farm must be able to be replicated in the home villages of these people.
In the rainy season, corn is planted and harvested. In addition, other crops, such as millet, sorghum, and cow peas (indigenous crops) are raised on the farm. During the dry season, which typically lasts seven months, irrigation is necessary to continue to grow crops. Practices in irrigation, harvesting, storage, and marketing are all incorporated into the training available at the farm.
By empowering the people of Zambia with the knowledge of God and capability to provide for themselves, Sons of Thunder ministry is working to fulfill the call of God to feed Africa, defeating the threat of starvation and world hunger.
