Sons of Thunder is reaching out
through evangelical campaigns to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, along with
providing food and relief for the needy. Lives are being changed, people fed,
medicine provided, and hope is once again being restored to the people of Africa

The orphanage on the farm officially closed Oct. 30, 2009. The orphan outreach began before we opened the orphanage, and continues now. Our strength in Thunder Ministries has been going into "bush" areas and helping many people who would otherwise not receive assistance. Thankfully, many churches and organizations have established orphanages and are meeting the needs of those children who are institutionalized. We feel our call is to help prevent the need of placing a child in an orphanage.
Zambian culture really emphasizes the extended family. That is greatly aided by the village style of living. When a family has a child that they are not able to care for because of the death or illness of one or both of the parents, the grannies, uncles, aunts or the surving parent really try to keep the child. They are often unable to, particularly if the child is sick. In an attempt to save the child's life, he or she will be placed in an orphanage.
The aids pandemic in Zambia is huge, and there are approximately 750,000 orphans with one or no parents. We must do all we can to help. Our involvement is unique. We work where few others work, and we are qualified medically and nutritionally to save lives and to bring proper nutrition. The nationals on the farm are great help to our medical team.
In layman terms, let me explain what we do. We save many babies and mothers with good deliveries, either in the bush, or at our clinic, or transporting to a local hospital if there are difficulties. If the mother or father is HIV positive, we give them proper treatment and medication. If the baby is positive, we start treatment immediately, and give infant formula where breast-feeding is not sufficient. If there is death, or inability to work, we provide food for the families, and training in good agriculture procedures so that extended families can produce more food to care for themselves. We monitor and keep helping the families until they are able to care for themselves. We pray with them and share the gospel of Jesus Christ that teaches good morals and proper marriage relationships.
The job is enormous. We have not reduced our orphan involvement, but actually enabled ourselves to fulfill the uniqueness of our call in the areas where God has made us strong. We need your prayers and help. Please be faithful.
